B. F. Jones Memorial Library

In 1988, we were retained to renovate this important Beaux-Arts Library, featured on the National Register. The program also included an addition on the back elevation to allow for a new elevator, making the building fully accessible. We specified and ensured that the addition was clad with a limestone that was a precise match to the original. Additionally, we worked hard to design and detail the addition so that it would fit in seamlessly with the original design. To restore the original building, we specified the masonry be cleaned and patched as required. The highly decorative copper rooftop cheneau was thoroughly restored and, in some cases, replaced. On the interior, new travertine walls were designed to match those that were original. New Life-Safety, Mechanical, and Electrical systems were carefully designed so as not to interfere with the historic interior. Finally, our design included a conversion of the basement into a new children’s library.
